A quoi ça sert ? Ça veut dire quoi ça ? Pourquoi c'est comme ça ?
What's the point? What does that mean? Why is it like this?
C'est ? C'est qui lui ? Un jour, une question !
Where is it? Who is he? One day, one question!
C'est quoi le 14 juillet ?
What is July 14?
On July 14, in France, we go out to dance at balls or see the fireworks: it's party time.
C'est aussi très sérieux.
It is also very serious.
In Paris, tanks and soldiers from all armies parade in front of the President of the Republic.
And parades are also organized in several cities in France.
It is the national day, the day when the State invites the French to celebrate their country.
Mais pourquoi avoir choisi le 14 juillet ?
But why did they choose July 14?
Because on July 14, 1789, the French fought for their freedom and won.
At the time, King Louis XVI no longer ruled France alone: he had to work with people elected by the people.
But the king seemed to be planning an attack to regain all power.
To prevent this, the French created their own army, which they called the National Guard.
They went to look for weapons and bullets at the Bastille prison in Paris.
In this fortress, the king locked up whoever he wanted, as he wanted.
C'est injuste.
It was unfair.
The French wanted the end of absolute monarchy.
With cannonballs, they destroyed the Bastille, thus showing the king that the people were the strongest.
It is this victory of the people that we celebrate on July 14.
Blue-white-red flags are hung everywhere, and we even have the right not to work.
July 14 is a public holiday, and a celebration of all French people!
